1Who we are

AlienG is a bookmarking service operated by AlienG Company. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, who else sees it, and what you can do about it.

2What we collect

Information you give us

• Your email address. Required to create an account. We use it to sign you in, to send you one-time codes, and to contact you about your account.
• Your name. Required at sign-up, but you choose what to enter. It is shown to anyone you share a tab with — in the invitation email and on the shared page — so please bear that in mind when choosing it.
• Your password, if you sign up with one. It is stored in hashed form. We cannot read it, and we cannot tell you what it is.
• Your bookmarks. The web addresses you save, the titles you give them, the tabs you organise them into, and any descriptions you add.

Information created by your use of the service

• Click counts. We count how often you open each bookmark, so we can show you your most-visited sites. This count is yours alone. Clicks on the Public tab's entries are counted in total, not per person.
• Recently visited. The order in which you last opened your bookmarks.
• Your settings. Display preferences such as tile size, view mode, theme and language.
• Session information. A cookie that keeps you signed in, and a record of that session on our server holding its expiry time, your IP address and your browser's identifying string. The record lasts as long as the session does — at most 90 days — and is then removed.
• Your country and the date of your visit, as a daily count (section 6). We count every visit this way, without asking, because the count identifies nobody: your address is never stored, and nothing links a count to you or your account.
• A local copy on your device. Your browser keeps a copy of your tabs, bookmarks and settings so the app opens quickly. It stays on your device and is cleared when you sign out.

Information collected automatically

• Your IP address. Used to apply rate limits, and to determine your approximate country so we can show relevant entries on the Public tab. Apart from the session record above, we do not keep a history of your IP addresses. One exception: if you report a shared link without being signed in, your IP address is stored with the report.
• Technical information sent by your browser as part of any web request, such as your browser type and language.

If you sign in with Google

We receive your email address, your name, your Google account identifier and, if your account has one, the address of your profile picture. We store that address but do not currently display the picture. We do not receive your Google password and we have no access to your Google account beyond confirming who you are. Signing in with Google means Google itself sees that you signed in to AlienG.

3What we do not collect

• We do not ask for your date of birth, your address, your phone number or any payment details.
• We do not store or analyse the contents of the pages you bookmark. We fetch each bookmarked page once, from a machine we operate, to read its title and keep that alongside the web address; nothing else from the page is kept.
• We do not build advertising profiles about you.

4Why we use your data

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, we process this data on the basis of your consent, which you give when you create an account; the visitor count retains no personal data at all — the address used to work out your country is discarded once it has been used, the same way it already is for the Public tab. Where the GDPR applies, our lawful basis is the performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working, and — for the visitor count — our legitimate interest in knowing where the service is used, which is met without storing anything about you.

5Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with anyone except as described here.

Service providers who process data on our behalf

• Hostinger hosts the service on a server in India and keeps its own backups of that server in Singapore (see section 11).
• Brevo sends our emails — one-time codes and share invitations. They receive the recipient's email address and the content of that email. Brevo processes and stores that data on servers in the European Union (France, Germany and Belgium).
• Google supplies the small site icons shown on bookmark tiles. Our server fetches each icon once from Google's icon service and keeps a copy; Google sees which website's icon our server asked for, not who you are. Your browser never contacts Google for icons. If you sign in with Google, Google handles that sign-in directly.
• Wikimedia (Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons) is where our server looks up brand logos by website name. Only website names are sent; no personal data is involved.
• MaxMind provides the database we use to map an IP address to a country. The lookup runs on our own server using a local copy of that database; your IP address is not sent to MaxMind.

When you share a tab

If you share a tab, the person you share it with sees the bookmarks in that tab and the name on your account. If you create a public share link, anyone who has that link can see the tab's contents and your name, without signing in. Please share links only with people you intend to see them.

You can revoke a share at any time. Revocation takes effect immediately.

When the law requires it

We may disclose data if we are legally required to, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety or the safety of others.

6Analytics and advertising

AlienG does not use third-party analytics and does not display advertising.

We keep our own visitor statistics, and we do not ask first. Each time a screen is shown — the app loading, a tab being switched to, the Public tab or Recently Visited being opened — we add one to that day's view count for your country (the country worked out as described in section 5), split only into signed-out and signed-in, and once a day per session we add one to that day's visit count. We store nothing else: not your address, not your account, not your browser, and nothing on your device for this purpose. A row in that table reads like "India, 10 September 2026, 47". It identifies nobody, which is why no choice is offered: there is nothing individual in it to opt out of. The counts are kept indefinitely. No third party receives any of this. We use them to see where AlienG is used and whether that changes.

We may introduce third-party analytics in the future — most likely a general-purpose web analytics service such as Google Analytics — to understand how the service is used and improve it. Such a service would receive information about your visits, including your IP address, and may set its own cookies.

We may also introduce advertising in the future. If we do, an advertising provider may collect information about your visits in order to select which advertisements to show.

If either happens, we will update this policy, change the date at the top, and tell existing account holders before the change takes effect. We will describe exactly which services are in use and what they receive. Where the law requires your consent for such cookies or tracking, we will ask for it.

7How long we keep things

• Your account and bookmarks are kept for as long as your account exists.
• Deleted bookmarks and tabs are recoverable for 24 hours, after which they are permanently removed by an automatic nightly process.
• If you delete your account, your account and all its contents — tabs, bookmarks, settings, shares and notifications — are deleted immediately. Backups containing your data are overwritten within 90 days. If someone copied bookmarks from a tab you had shared, their copy stays in their account: it is theirs.
• Accounts that are never verified are removed automatically after 7 days.
• Visitor statistics are daily counts per country and are kept indefinitely; there are no per-visit records, and nothing in them can be traced to a person.
• Backups are kept on a rolling schedule: six-hourly copies for 48 hours, daily backups for 14 days, weekly backups for 8 weeks, and an off-site copy for 90 days. Our hosting provider keeps its own daily copy for 7 days and a weekly copy for 6 weeks.

8Your rights

You can, at any time:

• See your data. Everything you have stored is visible in the app.
• Export your data. Settings → Import / Export produces a file containing your tabs and bookmarks.
• Correct your data. Your name and your bookmarks can be edited in the app.
• Delete your account, from Settings → Account Settings. This is permanent.
• Withdraw consent, by deleting your account. The visitor count holds nothing about you to withdraw; if you object to being counted at all, write to us and we will answer.

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to object to processing, to restrict processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in India, you may nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity, and you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

To exercise any right not available in the app, write to contact@alieng.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9Security

Passwords are hashed. Traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Sessions expire. Access to the production system is restricted.

No service is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that your data will never be accessed improperly. If a breach occurs that is likely to affect you, we will tell you and the relevant authority as the law requires.

10Children

AlienG is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, write to contact@alieng.com and we will remove it.

11Where your data is held

The service runs on a server in India, and that is where your account and bookmarks live. Copies of your data exist in these places:

• Our own backups are written on that same server in India.
• Our off-site copy of those backups is kept on hardware we operate in India.
• Our hosting provider's backups of the server are stored in Singapore, for the periods given in section 7.
• Emails we send you are processed by Brevo in the European Union (section 5).

If you use AlienG from elsewhere, your data is transferred to and stored in India and, through the provider's backups, Singapore. We rely on your consent to these transfers, given when you create an account; where the GDPR applies, the transfers rest on their being necessary to provide the service you asked for.

12Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your data — such as introducing analytics or advertising — we will tell existing account holders before it takes effect.
